5 Ways To Gain Inspiration When You're Stuck In A Creative Rut
Posted on 14 August 2016
After the excitement of last weekend's '3 days of Hero Summer' event we’re quite pleased to see this week draw to a close. With oodles of new stock scattering Hero shop and behind the scenes events plans coming to fruition (watch this space!), we're embracing AW16.
Don't get us wrong, we absolutely love hosting events, but we're sure you'll agree that there's something cathartic about closing one door before opening the next. New projects require undivided attention, so our motto is to take the positivity gained, and fly!
With positivity in mind, stifled creativity can add a spanner to the works, but we all experience creative ruts now and then. Whether this affects your work or personal life, it can put a lot of pressure on individuals or teams. In this situation it's important to take a positive stance and find ways to reignite inspiration and regain control of your creativity.
As a business, our social platforms rely on creativity to take the day-to-day happenings of Hero, one step further. Hero's creative social platforms are vital to the awareness, growth and progression of the Hero brand. They offer a slice of Hero's personality.
Today's blog post explores ways to gain inspiration when you're in a creative rut...
You may wonder what has fuelled this post.. Emily (Hero's Marketing & Events Manager) was in a bit of a creative rut with Hero's Instagram last week. Going through the notions allowed her to pinpoint a few ideas to alleviate her stifled creativity and regain inspiration. It's important to find inspiration which will reignite your spark and take away any frustration. But before anything, don't be too hard on yourself!
1. TALK TO A MENTOR
This may be a family member, a friend or someone you specifically go to for business advise. It's great to gain different perspectives and even more so if this means escaping your office/working area to regain fresh light on the bigger picture.
2. TAKE TIME AWAY FROM THE TASK AT HAND
Completely forget about the task/s at hand and lend your mind to something else which requires your concentration which is likely to inspire you... visit an art gallery, cook, go for a walk, catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while.
3. READ OR WATCH SOMETHING INSPIRATIONAL
(Currently) Catch up on the Olympics - waking up this morning to hear that Mo Farah has won his third gold medal (after falling in the 10th lap) is totally awe-inspiring. Mo has had his up and downs, we all experience bouts of euphoria and dismay, but we can all bounce back!
4. TAKE A FEW DAYS 'OUT'
Visit a new city and be inspired by the livelihood of others. Don't have a plan, let go of what's on your mind and just be free.
5. REVISIT CREATIVE MOMENTS
Familiarise yourself with previous, positive projects to reignite faith in yourself. You need to allow yourself to believe that you can execute the task at hand. Without the belief you'll keep falling back. Keep reminding yourself that you CAN - positive affirmations.
What do you do to get out of a creative rut?
