Hampshire Haunts & Wiltshire Weekend Wonders
Posted on 31 July 2016
On the blog this week we're sharing a few delightful food & beverage destinations across Hampshire and Wiltshire; ideal for weekend wondering with friends and family - the majority are dog friendly, too!
We are blessed to be surrounded by some exquisite countryside in the South of England. We're also a stone's throw from a variety of eateries and enviable food & beverage locations suited for a number of occasions. Some weekends we just want to chill, wonder into town, grab a coffee and amble. Others we're willing to travel further afield to embrace our 'local' communities.
Today we're sharing a happy medium of destinations. Read more to discover a coffee shop delight, brunch spot to share with all your friends and a Sunday roast haven.
Winchester (& Salisbury)
We all fancy ourselves as coffee connoisseurs, right!? We're pretty sure we aren't the only ones! 🙊. Forever on the hunt for the perfect coffee (we know this is subjective based on day, time and need for caffeine at the time!), we love to share suggestions and search the web/social for the newest coffee shops in our area.
Emily recently came across Coffee Lab UK in Salisbury and by the sounds of things they've got some serious coffee game! We're yet to check-out the Winchester setup but both are worth popping into based on the Salisbury experience. Their beans of choice are from 'The Roasting Party' and their latte art is seriously spot on. Looking forward to this morning's caffeine fix from the Salisbury shop!
Forte kitchen has got all the food & beverage bases covered! Brunch, Coffee & Cake or Dinner, take your pick! The team at Forte have created a really welcoming atmosphere which is equally as impressive as the service - friendly and attentive without being stuffy and formal. Their locally sourced menu is relatively small which we certainly find appealing... It can be a little off-putting when you're faced with a 25 piece menu!
Be sure to book if there are a few of you. However, it's not so bad if you have to wait as you can enjoy their arty display of wooden spoons along the stairway to the restaurant which certainly makes for a great Instagram pic!
With two AA rosettes, The Yew Tree, a traditional 17th century English country pub, offers so much more than 'pub grub'. Their menu is extremely versatile, offering a 'graze, share, or indulge' approach - something for everyone. Offering locally sourced, high quality, seasonal British produce means you gain a wealth of foodie flavours - you can taste the heart and soul that's injected into each dish. An extensive wine cellar, al fresco dinning and dog friendly ~ a fantastic spot for Sunday lunch.
Nestled in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside towards Tisbury, this enchanting 18th Century walled garden is a truly unique and magical place. There's a sublime kitchen garden to stroll around and you can 'pick your own' fruit and flowers before enjoying a piece of their homegrown menu. The perfect destination for a long, lazy afternoon with a bottle of rose or two!
The Beckford Arms is a traditional yet stylish country pub with rooms located on the edge of the stunning rolling parkland of the Fonthill Estate in south Wiltshire. Great pub food (from excellently executed traditional pub grub to so much more...suckling pig, locally caught trout..) in a elegant, classic pub environment which sings weekend haven. You can eat in the bustling bar or dine in the ambient restaurant. There's a lovely walk direct from the pub so dogs can enjoy themselves too!
The sun is scorching through the shutters as we speak, so wherever your Sunday takes you, have a great one!
