Spring Clean your Wardrobe in 5 Simple Steps

Posted on 19 March 2017

Hello!

It’s that time of the year when we all need a Spring clean, to clear out our wardrobe for those upcoming warmer months (we hope!). With beautiful daffodils and tulips brightening up our homes, we simply cannot keep storing our big winter jumpers in our closets!

It’s time to introduce fabulous Spring style: light-airy knits, bright silky shirts, and swap those boots for some luxurious flats. Over on our previous blog post we have some great suggestions on how to transition your style.

To help you organise your mind and your wardrobe, we’ve developed 5 top tips to transform your 'floordrobe' into the perfect wardrobe!

Step 1:

Time is crucial! To get the most beneficial results for you, you need to make time. Clearing out your wardrobe is a time consuming job (which is why we don’t do it very often), therefore you need to ensure you have a clear schedule for it. We would recommend allowing around 2-3 hours.

Step 2:

So, let’s get to the job! Our first proper step involves completely clearing your wardrobe out. In order to gain a fresh mind and a fresh perspective, you can’t begin by staring at the explosion of clothes in your closet. Take every item out, and pile up your hangers.

Step 3:

The next step is to create separate piles. We suggest three: one for things you want to keep in the wardrobe, another for items you want to keep but store away for another season, and the final for anything you no longer need and can therefore donate to charity or friends/family.

Step 4:

Whilst you’re deciding what item goes in what pile, you need to have established some ground rules. As we know how difficult it is to get rid of clothes, you need to decide on what makes it okay for you to keep something. A suggestion is, if you haven’t worn an item within the past 6-8 months, then it probably means you aren’t going to wear it any time soon! It is also good to get some basic, staples in your wardrobe to build around. We tend to struggle with emotional attachments to garments, but sometimes you’ve just got to let them go!

Step 5:

This final step involves the process of placing the clothing back into your wardrobe… It is good to plan a structure, perhaps you would like to colour co-ordinate everything? Or maybe place items from the same product category together? This part is completely up to you!

One final tip for your wardrobe Spring clean, is to keep it up! Pick one day perhaps every month when you will revisit your wardrobe. Have you been wearing any garments you purchased in the last month? Or you may even have some with the tag on still!

A way you can make sure this monthly check-up happens, is by using your diary or monthly planner, and delegating a specific day to do it. Of course after you’ve completed this Spring clean you won’t need to spend hours every time, so just keep by a little bit of time every month. Hopefully then, your wardrobe will always be prepared for those longer and lighter days.

Good luck! We'd love to hear how you get on!
